Reporting to the police is free. Emergency contraceptive pills are over-the-counter drugs and can be purchased at pharmacies. A course of PEP costs over a thousand yuan; whether or not to take it is determined by a doctor, as described in item 38 of this section (obtaining PEP within 72 hours). The difficulty lies in the fact that it is hard to speak up at the time, and there is also a strong desire to take a shower immediately.

A prosecutor from the Beijing Municipal People's Procuratorate stated: "Whether it is a minor or an adult, if an infringement occurs, one should call 110 to report to the police immediately." Reporting to the police and seeking medical treatment in a timely manner "facilitates the investigative authorities in promptly inspecting the scene, extracting physical evidence and traces, and securing evidence." The People's Daily manual on preventing sexual assault, reposted by the Guizhou Provincial Department of Civil Affairs, states: "If you are unfortunately subjected to sexual assault, the most important thing is to preserve evidence." One should preserve "evidence such as bodily fluids, hair, skin scales, and communication records," and "after being assaulted, do not take a bath, wash clothes, clean the room, or throw away items without authorization." In cases involving acquaintances, preserve call and communication records. If the other party threatens or attempts to bribe you afterward, evidence must also be preserved. The Xicheng District People's Procuratorate of Beijing writes: "Try not to bathe before undergoing a physical examination." The World Health Organization states that emergency contraception can be used in cases of "sexual assault where a woman has not taken effective contraceptive precautions." It is recommended to use it within 5 days; the earlier, the more effective. For emergency contraceptive pills containing levonorgestrel (a progestin), the pregnancy rate for women who have used them is 1.2% to 2.1%. Levonorgestrel tablets sold in domestic pharmacies are over-the-counter drugs. According to the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission: after unprotected sexual intercourse, "within 72 hours, the earlier the medication is taken, the better the pregnancy prevention effect." HIV post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) should be taken as soon as possible within 2 hours, and no later than 72 hours (nationwide).

Option B is provided because these are official investigative experiences and medication recommendations; there are no specific figures for "how much the conviction rate increases after following them." The beneficiaries are primarily yourself and your family. The 72 hour window for emergency contraception follows the domestic package insert, whereas the World Health Organization states it is effective within 5 days, but the later you take it, the worse the efficacy; do not delay. If you are already pregnant, emergency contraception will not work. When reporting to the police, speak truthfully—do not conceal anything, but do not exaggerate either. If the other party attempts to settle privately, offer money, or threaten you after the incident, keep all records and do not delete them. You may choose to report to the police after careful consideration, but evidence will disappear over time. Regardless of whether you report it, you must go to the hospital within the time limit.
